DONALD "BAILY" ALAN HALVERSON was born on April 29, 1956, to Byron and Delores (Hunsdal) Halverson in Adrian, Minnesota. He was raised outside of Kenneth, Minnesota where he helped his dad with work on the farm. During his childhood, he could frequently be found riding his horse and tormenting his sisters. Baily attended school in Kenneth through the sixth grade when he transferred to school in Magnolia, Minnesota. Prior to his graduation in 1975, he enjoyed playing on the high school football team. Baily began working with the carnival in Valley Springs, South Dakota, where he was introduced to Nora Moss. The two were united in marriage on July 23, 1977, at the Reformed Church in Valley Springs. Following their marriage, they made their first home in Magnolia. They went on to make several moves before becoming part of the community in Kenneth in 1987. Here, they spent their time raising their children. Baily and Nora purchased the Kenneth Bar in 1999. On Thursday, February 27, 2020, Baily died at his home in Kenneth at the age of 63 years, nine months, and 29 days.
Baily was a member of Kenneth Lutheran Church until its closing. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing pool, fishing, and hunting. His children have many fond memories of their turtle fishing trips and the subsequent “turtle feeds” that Baily and Nora held for their friends and family. Baily was involved in his community and served as the unofficial “sheriff” of Kenneth. He always kept an eye on local activities and loved patrolling town while on his golf cart rides. He was a man of many trades and often worked on welding projects, repairing tractors, woodworking, and helping with various handyman tasks. He was an avid UFC fan and had a movie collection reminiscent of the best days of Blockbuster, including a diligently enforced rental policy. Though he was not one to be found in crowds, he truly enjoyed the company of his friends and deeply loved his family. His grandchildren meant the world to him and words did not need to be said in order for his family to understand they were loved.
Baily is remembered by his wife, Nora of Kenneth; children, Derek Halverson (Pamela Rogness-Bierman) of Luverne, Minnesota, Ryan (Kelly) Halverson of Ellsworth, Minnesota, and Nicole Halverson of Hardwick, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Dallis, Cyris, Trevor, Mia, and Andy Halverson; mother, Delores Halverson of Hills, Minnesota; and siblings, Doris (Keith) Hoven of Kenneth, Donna Carlson of Hills, Debbie Halverson of Luverne, and Diane (Randy DeSplinter) VanSteenberg of Kenneth. He was preceded in death by his father, Byron Halverson; brothers, Byron Wayne and Russell Lowel; brother-in-law, Larry Carlson; niece, Lori Hoven; and his grandparents.
