DONALD HAUBRICH was born to Lawrence and Alice (Bostic) Haubrich on November 7, 1932 in Holland, Minnesota. At a young age, he moved with his family to Woodstock, Minnesota where he attended school. Later they moved to Lake Preston, South Dakota where he attended the fourth grade. One year later after the death of his father, they moved to Pipestone, Minnesota and he continued his education, graduating from Pipestone High School in 1951. On January 16, 1951, he was deployed with the Pipestone National Guard, serving in Korea. After he returned from Korea, he took Officer’s Training at Fort Benning in Georgia. Shortly after returning to Pipestone, he began working at the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company eventually working his way up to President and General Manager. On December 30, 1961, he was united in marriage to Carol Anderson at St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone. Following their marriage, they lived in Pipestone. In 1974, he was discharged from the Army. In 1998, he retired from Pepsi, but continued going in to the office everyday to visit, have coffee and check up on things. Don died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the age of 79 years, two months and 18 days.
Don was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church where he served on the church council. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #6 and VFW Post #3814. He served on the school board for Pipestone High School and Pipestone Area Vocational School for nine years. He also served on the Advisory Board of First Farmers & Merchants Bank for nine years. He was a volunteer for the Hook and Ladder Company for the Pipestone Fire Department for 20+ Years. He was very proud of all his children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Carol Haubrich of Pipestone, Minnesota; his children, Mary Reak and her husband Tom and their children, Alex, Jack and Joe of Elk River, Minnesota, Tim Haubrich and his wife Stacey and their children, Joshua, Claire and Jacob of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Jeff Haubrich and his wife JoDee and their children, Dylan, Sierra, Madee, and Colton of Luverne, Minnesota; his siblings, Elaine Hallberg and her husband Curtis of Milbank, South Dakota, James Haubrich and his wife Ilse of El Paso, Texas, Larry Haubrich and his wife Judy of Arden Hills, Minnesota, Gloria Johnson and her husband Randy of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, and David Steele and his wife Jayme of Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota; and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, James Steele.
