Donald Houg

Donald Everett Houg was born February 9, 1926 to Arthur and Bertha (Urdahl) Houg in Rosedell Township, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm and attended Central Country School District 36. On September 28, 1950, he was drafted into the United States Army and received his basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Don was then stationed in Albuquerque, New Mexico and worked security and military police detail. He was later stationed in Texas and was honorably discharged September 27, 1952. He then returned to Jasper to farm with his brothers. Donald was united in marriage February, 19, 1957 to Darlene DeSchepper at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with four children and near 60 years marriage together. The couple farmed and raised their family in Rock County near Jasper, Minnesota. Donald had held various jobs in Pipestone with Town and Country Locker and Meats, Farmer’s Elevator, and Skelgas. He retired in 1992. Near Christmas in 2016, Don had endured a fall and broken hip and later entered the care of Good Samaritan Community of Pipestone. Following a further decline in health, he died there on January 27, 2017 at the age of 90 years.
Donald was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, Minnesota. He enjoyed birds, sporting events, reading, caring for his home, and especially loved his grandchildren and family.
Donald will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Darlene of Jasper, Minnesota; his four children, Timothy Houg of Jasper, James (and Susan) Houg of Mound, Minnesota, Patrick (and Mary) Houg of Santa Maria, California, and Veronica (and Kelly) Johnson of Mound; eight grandchildren, Kate Houg, Blake Houg, Jaydeen Morris, Jessica Violetti, Shelby Houg, Whitney Houg, Sam Johnson, and Kia Johnson; a brother, Allen Houg of Pipestone, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Bertha Houg; and brother, Morris Houg. Blessed and eternal be his memory.
