Donald Charles Mulloy, was born to Flavain and Lauretta (McKenzie) Mulloy on August 11, 1944 in Pierre, South Dakota. Flavain worked in road construction, so the family moved frequently as the work required. In 1954, Don’s family settled in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Don attended Christ the King Elementary School and later graduated from O’Gorman High School in 1964. He entered the miliary the fall after his graduation. On December 29, 1965, Don was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Zimmermann at the St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls. Don began a long career as a mechanic, working for the Air Force and private companies. He was stationed at Fort Walton Beach and then in Thailand and then returned to Sioux Falls in 1968. He worked for several companies between 1968 and 1984 including Foster Bell, Mobile Gas, and JD Evans. In 1984, Don re-enlisted in the military, working for the Air National Guard. He enjoyed many deployments all over the world. In 1987, Don and Mary moved into a house on Prairie Avenue in Sioux Falls and Don drove school bus. In 2005, the couple relocated to Tyler, Minnesota, where Don continued to drive bus. He especially enjoyed driving for sports and golfing. On Tuesday, November 14, 2023, while surrounded by his loving family, Don was welcomed into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 79 years, 3 months, and 3 days.
Don enjoyed volunteering and serving in his church and was active with the Knights of Columbus and meals on wheels. He was also an original member of the Air Guard Credit Union, a member of the Moose Lodge in Sioux Falls, and a member of the Lions Club in Tyler. He donated more than five gallons of blood. He loved to spend time with his family and friends and liked to go out to eat. He enjoyed weekly rounds of golf, reading, watching Westerns and MASH, and listening to country music. Don was a friend to all. He will be remembered for his kindness and patience in all things.
Don is survived by his wife, Mary Mulloy of Tyler; children Kathy (Brian) Bollig of Spicer, Minnesota, Kristy (Aaron) Swanson of Russell, Minnesota, Karrie (Chris) Foster of Circleville, Ohio, and Jeremy (Darcy) Mulloy of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; grandchildren, Austin (Emily), Jed (Payton), Evan (Josie), Payton, Jacob (Cassidy), Hannah, Sophia, Gabrielle, Mia, Kade, Griffin, Garrett, and Katie (Russ); three great-grandchildren; and siblings, Gaylen (Mary Lou) Mulloy of Graham Washington, Talvin (Mary Rose) Mulloy of Colorado, Myrna (Bernie) Hunoff of Yankton, South Dakota, Marlin (Cheryl) Mulloy of Yankton, Patricia Hojem of Yankton, and Peggy Mulloy of Yankton.
