SERVICE UPDATE: A graveside celebration of Doreen's life will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Flowerfield Cemetery near Hills, Minnesota. A social gathering will follow at 3:00 p.m. at 410 Edgehill St. in Luverne, Minnesota.
DOREEN CAROL ANDERSON was born on August 20, 1937, to Nels and Doris (Thompson) Anderson. She was raised in the Hills, Minnesota area by her parents with great love and care and received her baptism on October 31, 1937, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hills. On November 25, 1947, Doreen became a resident at the Faribault State Hospital in Faribault, Minnesota where she continued to reside until August 18, 1968. She then moved to St. Peter, Minnesota where she resided at the St. Peter State Hospital. On July 3, 1974, Doreen moved to the R.E.M. Home in Canby, Minnesota where she resided at the adult foster care home until November 15, 2000. During her time in Canby she was employed at the Canby Developmental Achievement Center. When she wasn’t busy working, Doreen could often be found enjoying crocheting something. Doreen then moved to the Habilitative Services, Inc. Home in Luverne, Minnesota. She resided at the adult foster care home and was employed through the Rock County Opportunities program. On May 1, 2008, Doreen became a resident at Parkview Manor in Ellsworth, Minnesota, where on Thursday, January 23, 2020, she died peacefully under hospice care at the age of 82 years, five months and three days.
Doreen is lovingly remembered by her four siblings, Orlin Anderson of Omaha, Nebraska, Barb Klawitter of Marshfield, Wisconsin, Diane Vink of Iola, Kansas, and Julie Alzen of Lakeside, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Doris Anderson; a sister-in-law, Joyce Anderson; and two brothers-in-law, Garrett “Gary” Vink and Harvey Klawitter.
