DORIS LOUISE (DERAGISCH) BLOM was born on April 23, 1934 to Carl and Rose (Berger) Smith on the family farm in Erwin, South Dakota, where she was raised. In 1952, she graduated from high school in Arlington, South Dakota. On May 24, 1953 Doris was united in marriage to Dean Deragisch in Arlington. The couple first made their home in Arlington. In 1958, they moved their family to Hills, Minnesota. Dean preceded Doris in death on January 9, 1973. At the time the couple had six children, Debbie, Donna, Dan, Dave, Doug and Dawn. Along with raising their children, Doris worked over the years at Central Plains Clinic, Family Drug, and Priebe Chiropractic Clinic. She volunteered as a book ‘n’ buddy at Luverne Public Schools and also volunteered wherever else she could, whenever she was able. On July 12, 1982 Doris was united in marriage to Henry Blom. The couple made their home in Luverne, Minnesota. Henry preceded Doris in death on November 22, 2000. Doris formally retired in 2006. She remained connected to her community and friends. On Monday, February 27, 2017 Doris died peacefully in her home at the age of 82 years, ten months and four days.
Doris was a member of the American Reformed Church in Luverne. She was a humble woman and welcoming to everyone she met. She enjoyed attending Christian music groups and often travelled great distances to hear them. Doris was an avid fan of all Minnesota sports teams. She enjoyed traveling all over and golfing with her husband, Hank. She remained very young throughout life and was even pretty active on Facebook during her later years. Doris was committed to her family and never forgot an important date. She will be remembered for her devotion to prayer and the importance of receiving Christ in one’s heart.
Doris is lovingly remembered by her children, Deb (Mark) Emery of Luverne, Donna (Steve) Schneider of Fargo, North Dakota, Dan (Lola) Deragisch of Eagan, Minnesota, Dave (Lori) Deragisch of Luverne, Doug (Danette) Deragisch of Marshall, Minnesota, and Dawn (Art Crain) Deragisch of Stillwater, Minnesota; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Johnson of Duluth, Minnesota; and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dean Deragisch and Henry Blom; parents, Carl and Rose Smith; and a sister, Audrey Thomas.
Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or the Sanford Luverne Hospice Program.
