DOROTHY LEE (TIETGE) BEEMER
was born on May 22, 1916, the second eldest of seven children to Frank Merritt and Eva (Slasor) Tietge in Ravinia, South Dakota. She attended school in Ravinia, graduating from high school in 1934. She was united in marriage on June 1, 1940 to Lawrence Beemer in the Tietge home in Lake Andes, South Dakota. The couple lived in Lake Andes from 1940 to 2003, during that time she worked for the Agricultural Soil Conservation Service from 1957 to 1977. In 2003 they moved to Pipestone in order to be near their daughter, Carol. Larry preceded Dorothy in death on April 16, 2009. At this time she remained at Falls Landing in Pipestone until 2016 when Dorothy entered into the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone were she resided until her death on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the age of 101 years, nine months, and two days.
Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in both Lake Andes and Pipestone where she served in her circle, served as a Deacon and Church Treasurer, an Elder, and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the Rebeccas. Throughout her life she enjoyed sewing, knitting, flower gardening, and music (whether playing the organ or singing in the church choir). She also liked to play cards and enjoyed coffee with her friends. In her earlier years she loved to go dancing with Larry.
Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her three children, Janet (Jerry) Beemer Bode of Tucson, Arizona, Jon Alan (Grace) Beemer of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Carol Ann (Paul Schlim) Beemer of Pipestone, Minnesota; two siblings, Jerry W. Tietge of Alrington, Virginia, and Mary Frances Jenkins of Asheville, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Jill Bode, Jay Bode, Austin Beemer, Ande Schlim, Tara (Brent) Hendricks, Jeff Schlim, and Kristin Schlim Straw; eight great grandchildren, Colton and Jaxon Hendricks, Ema, Taryn, and Maksim Schlim, Anthony, Ashlynn, and Angelina Spiegelberg; and many other loving family and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; grandsons, Nicholas Schlim and Creighton Beemer; sisters, Lenore Pullins, Lois Love, and Carol Tietge; and one brother, Frank Tietge, Jr..
