Dorothy Brockberg

DOROTHY JEAN (TOTMAN) BROCKBERG was born on January 8, 1929 to Valdi and Lois (Reynolds) Totman in Pipestone, Minnesota. Dorothy grew up in Pipestone and graduated from Pipestone High School in 1948. On June 19, 1955 Dorothy was united in marriage to Melvin Brockberg in the Presbyterian Church in Pipestone. Following their marriage, the couple lived on the Brockberg family farm near Trosky, Minnesota. Dorothy was a stay at home mother, who took great pride in caring for her beloved children and husband. The couple lived on the family farm for 47 years, before Dorothy moved to the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. Dorothy continued to live there until her death on Friday, September 14, 2018 at the age of 89 years, eight months and six days.

Dorothy was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Trosky. She was a member of the Michael Boock American Legion Auxiliary Post #6 for 70 years and served as the group’s Past President. She also was a member of the VFW Axillary in Pipestone. Dorothy had a great love of serving people and especially loved volunteering at the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone to assist the elderly with playing bingo.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Melvin Brockberg of Pipestone; her beloved children, David Brockberg of Pipestone, Gary (Deb) Brockberg of Brookings, South Dakota, Kathy (Mike) Hachmann of Jasper, and Bill (Jody) Brockberg of Jasper, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren, Dawn (Stephen) Wynja, Michael (Janelle) Brockberg, Daniel Brockberg, Laura (David) Berg, Ryan (Lindsey) Brockberg, Katie Brockberg, Derek Brockberg, Amber Brockberg, Logan Brockberg, Dustin (Katrina) Hachmann, and Allan Hachmann; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Harold Totman of Pipestone, Gerald Totman of Pipestone, Earl “Pink” Totman of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Robert Totman of Arizona; one sister, Ethelyn Mae Girard of Minneapolis; and many other loving friends and family members. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Cleo Steele and Viola Kennedy; and one brother, Donald Totman.
