Dorothy Bunjer

Dorothy Wilhelmina (Baumgarn) Bunjer was born on July 9, 1921 to George and Augusta (Jansen) Baumgarn in Sutherland, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Ocheyedan, Iowa. On March 15, 1940, Dorothy was united in marriage to Frederick “Bud” Bunjer and to this union seven children were born. For a short while the couple lived with Dorothy’s parents until they moved to the Tyler, Minnesota area in the early 40s. They moved to the Arco, Minnesota area in 1945, where she resided the rest of her life. In May of 2013, Dorothy moved into the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Tyler where she remained until she passed away there on Friday, November 28, 2014 at the age of 93 years, four months, and 19 days.

Dorothy was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Arco, Minnesota where she was involved in many different activities and groups. She enjoyed volunteering on Tuesdays at the Arco Center. She truly loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and liked to beat them at Crazy 8, King’s Corners, and numerous other card games. She was a gardener of both flowers and vegetables. She listened to old time polka music until the very end. Dorothy was a wonderful, selfless, and hard-working lady.

Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her five children, Carol Bunjer of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Larry (Dianne) Bunjer of Ivanhoe, Minnesota, Ronald (Patty) Bunjer of Arco, Minnesota, Cindy (Tom) Frensko of Ivanhoe, and Danny (Janine) Bunjer of Arco; one daughter-in-law, Jessie Bunjer of Colton, South Dakota; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Carol Baumgarn of Sanborn, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frederick “Bud”; and two sons, David and Billy; two brothers, Robert and Donald Baumgarn; and an infant granddaughter.
