Dorothy Ellen (Sandberg) Halsne was born March 5, 1940 to Elmer and Gladys (Lorntzsen) Sandberg in Granite Falls, Minnesota. She attended country school for eight years. After graduating from Granite Falls High School in 1957, she earned her teaching degree from Mankato State in Mankato, Minnesota. On January 30, 1961 Dorothy married C. Wayne Halsne in Brookings, South Dakota. Their union was blessed with four children and many years of life together. The couple moved to Mankato and Dorothy taught first grade in St. Peter, Minnesota for a couple years. In 1965 they moved to Tyler, Minnesota and have resided there ever since. Dorothy taught Title I, Kindergarten, and 24 years of First Grade, retiring in 2002 after 28 years of teaching. After retirement, she and Wayne wintered in Gulf Shores, Alabama for 11 years. Dorothy passed away peacefully under hospice care on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Avera Tyler Hospital at the age of 78.
Dorothy was a member of Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, and doing crafts at home. She was also an avid Minnesota Lynx fan and would never miss a game. She was proud to be a teacher who enjoyed her profession and loved all of “her kids” through the years, always remembering them. She also enjoyed being a mother of her own kids and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife of 57 years.
Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her husband, Wayne of Tyler; three children, Denise (Mike) Fisher of Bloomington, MN, Todd (Beth) Halsne of Burke, SD, and Kevin Halsne of Chanhassen, MN; 5 grandchildren, Calvin (Leah) Fisher, Annemarie Fisher, Tricia (Dan) Pusch, Jessica Halsne, and Justin Halsne; 2 great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Maddyson Pusch; 2 brothers, James Sandberg and Keith (Victoria) Sandberg; 5 sisters, Mavis (Marvin) Mattila, Bernice (Roland) Corsten, Clara (Bob) Overby, Shirley Brown, and Joyce (Charlie) Harper; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Terry Halsne in 1965; her parents, brother Alden; and a brother-in-law, Sonny Brown.
Blessed and eternal be her memory.
