Dorothy Van Dyke Roemeling

March 21, 1925 — May 31, 2015

Dorothy Evelyn Berkenpas was born on March 21, 1925 one mile north of Holland, Minnesota in Aetna Township to William and Nettie (Freese) Berkenpas. Dorothy was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Holland. She attended school in Verdi where she graduated with the class of 1943. On November 20, 1943, Dorothy was united in marriage to Marlin “Bud” Van Dyke at the First Presbyterian Church in Holland, Minnesota. They made their home on a farm near Holland where they farmed. Bud preceded her in death in 1978. In June of 1983, Dorothy was married to Don Roemeling, Don passed away in January of 1997. Dorothy was employed with the Pipestone County Hospital, M&M and later JCPenny until they closed. At that time, she began working at A&S Drug until her retirement. Dorothy continued to live in Holland until she moved to Falls Landing in Pipestone, Minnesota. In September of 2014, Dorothy became a resident of Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton where she lived until her death on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 10 days.

Dorothy was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was active in Circle, Ladies Aid, taught Sunday school and played the organ for over 45 years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Holland. Dorothy enjoyed music, reading, crossword puzzles and helping with the Holland Senior Citizens.

Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her children, Ginny Witte of Phoenix, Arizona, Marlyce (David) Logan of Pipestone, Doreen (Marlin) Taubert of Pipestone, Nancy (Bill) Pennings of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Richard Van Dyke of Lynd, Minnesota and Bradley Van Dyke of Pipestone; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Beilin of Scarsdale, New York and Deanna McQueen of Pipestone. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Nettie; husbands, Marlin Van Dyke and Don Roemeling; sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Francis Reynolds; and one brother, William Berkenpas.
