Dorothy Weets

DOROTHY RUTH ELEANOR WEETS…

was born on June 26, 1922 to August and Hortense (Conrad) Peterson in Pipestone, Minnesota and was raised near Jasper. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper, Minnesota. She attended elementary school in a country school near Jasper and graduated from Pipestone High School. On February 21, 1941, she was united in marriage to Rhinehart Weets at her parents’ home. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm near Flandreau, South Dakota. Later they moved to Jasper where she lived for 59 years. In 2004, when she moved to Pipestone. In January, 2014, she entered the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. On Thursday, October 8, 2015, she was admitted to the Pipestone County Medical Center and on Monday, October 12, 2015, she was moved to the Pipestone County Hospice House. She died there on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at the age of 93 years, three months and 18 days.

Dorothy was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper where she served on the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of Eden Extension Club. She enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends, gardening and canning. She was known as the “Best jelly and bread maker in the world”. She was a historian and enjoyed embroidering. She loved to read, tell stories, and sing to her children and grandchildren. What she loved most was spending time with her family and friends.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Sandy (Dyer) Downing of Casa Grande, Arizona, Pat Farnand of Federal Way, Washington, Linda (Robert) Moore of Elk River, Minnesota, Susan (Bob) Adams of Rockford, Illinois, JoAnn Borcich of Pahoa, Hawaii, Laurie (Dennis) Welu of Pipestone, special niece, fondly referred to as daughter #7, Marlys (Franny) Hazelton of Pipestone and special friend, fondly referred to as son #2, David (Jan) Muller of Pipestone; nine grandchildren, Greg Benson, Shannon Laws, Sean Farnand, Christine (Jason) Repa, Adam (Jenny) Moore, Scott (Katie) Adams, Rebekah (Ryan) Anderson, Jessica Welu and Charlie Borcich; 11 great-grandchildren, Daniel and Hanna Laws, Cooper, Brandon and Evan Farnand, Catelyn, Ellie and Avery Anderson, Justin and Jack Repa and Gracie Moore; four sisters, Juanita Johnston of Leawood, Kansas, Irene Schalow of Pipestone, Myrt Sass of Dell Rapids, South Dakota and Bernice Alexander of Alexandria, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Marion Peterson of Jasper and Verona Weets of Pipestone; and one brother-in-law, Eugene Witte of Dell Rapids. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rhinehart; son, Gary; great-granddaughter, Megan Laws; siblings, Irma (Fritz) Gehrels, Eloise (Ed) Mitchell, Mildred Witte and Carl Peterson; son-in-law, Charlie Borcich; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
