Dwayne E. Kruger

October 12, 1948 — February 3, 2012

DWAYNE EDWARD KRUGER was born to John and Gertrude (Schilling) Kruger on October 12, 1948 in Sibley, Iowa where he was raised on the family farm near Little Rock, Iowa and attended country school. He continued his education at Little Rock High School. After his graduation in 1966, he was employed in curb and gutter construction in Iowa. On December 13, 1969, he was united in marriage to Shirley Kortleever in Ellsworth, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived near Leota, Minnesota where they farmed and operated a Grade A milking operation. Eight years later, they moved to a farm in Burke Township, north of Edgerton, Minnesota. While living and farming there, Dwayne worked as a cattle broker in southwest Minnesota. Their operation was known as D&S Calves. He was also employed at D’s Sanitation and Titan Machinery. His wife preceded him in death on August 22, 2008. Shortly thereafter, his health problems forced him to retire. Early on Friday, February 3, 2012, he was taken to the Pipestone County Medical Center where he died of heart failure at the age of 63 years, three months and 22 days.

Dwayne loved going to garage sales and attending auctions with his wife. He enjoyed going slug hunting every year with his son, Dan. In his younger years, he also enjoyed hunting for raccoons and coyotes. Throughout the years, he was known as an excellent pool player. He was an avid Vikings and Twins fan. During the summer months, Dwayne and Shirley loved to camp and visit with the many friends they made while camping. After Shirley’s death, Dwayne continued to camp at Lake Shetek. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is lovingly remembered by his two children, Dan Kruger and his wife Jody of Balaton, Minnesota, and Sharla Evans and her husband Matt of Willmar, Minnesota; five grandchildren; two brothers, Don Kruger and his wife Phyllis of Sibley, Iowa, and Darvin Kruger and his wife Therese of St. Cloud, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and one sister, Diane Smid.
