EDNA LUCILLE NOLL was born on March 31, 1922 to Adolph and Ingeborg (Olson) Wallenberg on the farm northwest of Beaver Creek, Minnesota where she was raised and received her education. After she graduated from Beaver Creek High School in 1940, she attended Nettleton Commercial College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Upon completion of her education, she began working at the Sioux Falls Army Air Force Base for 2 years. On February 10, 1944 she enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II, where she was stationed in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. After her honorable discharge on March 19, 1946 she worked at the Veteran’s Administration in Sioux Falls from April, 1947 until January, 1948. On February 4, 1948 Edna was united in marriage to Robert Noll in Beaver Creek, Minnesota. Following their marriage, the couple resided and farmed northeast of Luverne, Minnesota. They continued to live and farm in various places throughout Rock County. Edna worked at the Rock County Star Herald and The Estenson Company. Later she accepted a position for the ASCS office in June of 1968 where she worked until her retirement in April of 1984. After Robert’s death in November of 1986, Edna continued to live on the farm. In August of 1999, she moved to Luverne. In February of 2008, she became a resident at the Mary Jane Brown - Good Samaritan Home in Luverne. On Saturday, July 21st Edna suffered a stroke and was taken to the Sanford Luverne Hospital where she died early Wednesday morning July 25, 2012 at the age of 90 years, 3 months, and 24 days.
Edna was baptized in 1922 by the Rev. Rodsater. She was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She currently was a member of Palisades Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aid, serving as treasurer and secretary. She belonged to the Sarah Circle. She was active in 4-H with her children. She was a member of the Beaver Creek Cemetery Association, American Legion Dell Hogan Post #123, former member of Prairie Waves, and a member of the Luverne Senior Center where she enjoyed volunteering each noon. She liked doing volunteer work throughout the community. She especially enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.
Edna is lovingly remembered by her three children, Linda Wagner of Omaha, Nebraska, Sharon Dierks and her husband David of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Gene Noll and his wife Crickett of Beaver Creek, Minnesota; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Drowden of Lennox, South Dakota, and Alphie Swenson and her husband Robert of Corson, South Dakota. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; son-in law, Jim Wagner; parents; and brother, Elmer Wallenberg.
