EDNA MARIE BUSS was born June 9, 1919 to Carl and Anna Carlson in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was raised near Sherman, South Dakota where she graduated from high school in 1937. She attended college in Omaha, Nebraska and then transferred to Fargo Business College in Fargo, North Dakota. She married Tony Buss on April 3, 1942 at the Presbyterian Church in Long Beach, California. The couple lived on farms near Magnolia, Beaver Creek, and then built a house on their farm north of Luverne. The couple later divorced in 1984. Edna moved to California in 1986 where she became a caregiver to her brother, Arnold. In 1994 Edna returned to Luverne and settled into an apartment at the Centennial Home in Luverne. Edna worked various jobs throughout her life, but the one she enjoyed most was being a domestic engineer and raising her children. In December of 2008, she moved into Parkview Manor in Ellsworth, Minnesota. On Tuesday, February 26, 2013 Edna died peacefully at the Sanford Luverne Hospital at the age of 93 years, 8 months and 17 days.
Edna was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Luverne. She enjoyed dancing, pinochle, being a part of card clubs, sewing and needlework.
Edna is lovingly remembered by her two sons, Richard and Gerald and his wife Elizabeth “Liz” all of Luverne; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Arnold, Roy, and Lloyd Carlson; and daughter-in-law, Patricia Buss.
