Edward Carl Perseke was born May 3, 1922 in Colby, Wisconsin to Gust and Lydia (Dallman) Perseke. He was baptized on September 17, 1922 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Colby, and lived in various places, the last before his mother died when he was eight years old being Odessa, Minnesota . Following his mother’s death he grew up living with Olander and Luella Swenson. He was confirmed on May 19, 1935 in Odessa and completed the eighth grade in the Correll Public School. He entered the military during World War II and served in the South Pacific, reaching the rank of corporal. On September 25, 1949 Edward married Joyce Doese at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with 62 years of life together. He worked in Appleton at Steinle’s Super Valu. In 1950 they moved to Tracy, Minnesota where he managed a grocery store, and then worked at the Worthington Super Valu until 1956 when he purchased the store in Tyler, Minnesota. Edward and Joyce owned and operated Eddie’s Super Valu for 31 years. They retired in 1987 and spent 24 winters at their Phoenix, Arizona home, always returning to Tyler for the summers. On Saturday, April 14, 2012 Edward died at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, less than three weeks short of his 90th birthday.
Edward was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Tyler, where he twice served on the Church Council. He liked to work in the large yard of his Tyler home.
Edward is lovingly remembered by his wife, Joyce; a sister, Doris Wilkening of Appleton, Minnesota; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his four brothers, Harold, Rueben, Irvin, and Harvey Perseke; and two sisters, Luella Swenson and Emma Anderson.
