ELAINE C. MANN was born on July 21, 1932 to Henry and Nora (Hamann) Kemerling on a farm near Magnolia, Minnesota. The farm later became the home to Interstate 90. She lived with her family on farms throughout Rock County, Minnesota. She graduated from Luverne High School in 1950. On April 1, 1951 Elaine was united in marriage to Virgil Mann at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne. Following their marriage the couple made their home in various locations within Rock County. In her earlier years, Elaine was a homemaker and then worked at Nelson Brothers Department store, Creegers and The Sewing Basket. Virgil preceded her in death on December 24, 2003. Elaine remained at their home until January 2010 when she moved to Bethany Meadows in Brandon, South Dakota.
On March 14, 2013 Elaine died peacefully at Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 22 days (but will always be 39).
She was baptized and confirmed on April 29, 1951 at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne where she was a member and belonged to the women’s society, Deborah circle, and served on the chancel guild. She was also member of the Busy West Mounders Extension Club. She had a passion for sewing and quilting and shared these gifts as a member of the Blue Mound Quilter’s Club.
Elaine is lovingly remembered by her children, Jeff Mann of Houston, TX, Julie Vogel and her husband Gary of Rock Rapids, IA, Todd Mann and his wife Shawn of Luverne, and Tim Mann of Lincoln, NE; 10 grandchildren, Christine (Chad McClure) Mann, Ryan (Angela) Mann, Michelle Mann, Shane (Staci) Vogel, Tara (Chad) Ten Napel, Jessica (Jesse) Devine, Justin (Amy) Mann, Travis (Amanda Irions) Mann, Tyler (Angelica) Mann, and Taylor Mann; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Petersen and her husband Kurt of Luverne, and Norma Schneekloth of Luverne; sister-in-law, Doris Kemerling of Luverne; and other family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; infant daughter, Amy; a brother, Harvey Kemerling; and brothers-in-law, Lester Schneekloth and Robert Mann.
Memorials are preferred to St. John Lutheran Church for their quilter’s club or the Bethany Meadows Memory Care Unit.
