Elaine Selma Price. . .
was born to William and Elva (Pottratz) Petschow on March 31, 1917 on a farm in Altona Township, near Ward, South Dakota where she was raised. She attended school in Verdi, Minnesota. After her graduation from Verdi High School in 1935, she moved to Pipestone, Minnesota where she was employed doing housework. On April 12, 1939, she was united in marriage to Myron Price at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm in Eden Township, near Ihlen, Minnesota. Elaine helped her husband farm there for 22 years. When they moved into Pipestone in 1961, she began working at Sack’s Grocery Store as a cashier. Eight years later, she became employed as a secretary at UBC in Pipestone. In April, 1981, Myron preceded her in death. After his death, she continued to work at UBC until she retired in 1989. After her retirement, she demonstrated foods at Juba’s Grocery Store for several years. In 2011, Elaine moved into the Storybrook Apartments where she resided until her death on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the age of 98 years, 2 months and 27 days.
Elaine was a member at First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, served as chairman of the United Presbyterian Women, was the leader of her church circle, served as a Deacon, and also served on the church session. She was custodian at First Presbyterian Church for 13 years and then at First Baptist Church for 20 years. She was a charter member of the Eden Garden Club and was active in the Pipestone County Medical Center Auxiliary #2. She enjoyed flower gardening, embroidery, and ceramics. Elaine loved to dance, especially square dances, and helped to originate the Hollyhock Square Dancers.
She is lovingly remembered by her son-in-law, Ervin and his wife Dignora Fromm of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two grandchildren, Scott (Yvonne) Fromm of Arvada, Colorado, and Lance (Tanya) Price of Algona, Iowa; and one great-grandson, Ian Thomas Fromm. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Judy Fromm; two sons, Curtis Price and Dennis Price; her parents; and one sister, Iona Hinsperger.
