ELDORA ANNA FICK was born August 12, 1932 to Eli and Alvina (Lauck) Kitchenmaster on the family farm southeast of Hills, Minnesota, where she was raised. She was baptized on August 28, 1932 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Steen, Minnesota and confirmed on March 30, 1947 at Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester, Iowa. She attended school in Hills through the eighth grade. Following her education, she helped at home and also did housework for other area families. On June 10, 1956, Eldora was united in marriage to Gerhard Fick at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne, Minnesota. Following their union the couple made their home on the acreage across the road from Gerhard’s parents. Eldora became a homemaker, farm wife and mother to their four sons, Verlyn, Dennis, Michael and Steven. She enjoyed helping on the farm with the yard work and caring for the animals. The family moved across the road in 1971, to Gerhard’s parents’ old home. In 1997, the couple moved into Luverne. Eldora was diagnosed with stomach cancer in December of 2009. On March 24, 2011 Eldora passed away peacefully at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage at the age of 78 years, 7 months, and 12 days.
Eldora was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Throughout her church life she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and was a member of L.W.M.L. She enjoyed camping, traveling, volunteering for various organizations and caring for the flowers in the front of her home. Eldora also enjoyed crocheting and later on combined her talent with love through making afghans for each of her grandchildren.
Eldora is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Gerhard of Luverne; four sons, Verlyn and his wife Susan Fick of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Dennis Fick of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Michael and his wife Darlene Fick of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Rev.
