Elienore “Ellie” Louise (Ahlschlager) Myhre was born August 24, 1921 to Art and Alma Ahlschlager in Shelburn Township, Lyon County, Minnesota. She was the oldest of eight children. She was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Russell, Minnesota. She attended school in the Burchard/Russell area. At an early age, she worked for various families to supplement the family income. On August 27, 1941 Elienore married Mandrup “Mindy” Myhre at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Balaton. Upon his discharge from the United States Army, the couple made their home in Balaton. She drew out the house plans on a sheet of butcher paper. Their union was blessed with four children.
She was an active member of Sillerud Lutheran Church where she enjoyed bible study, quilting, ladies aid, and teaching Sunday school in earlier years. Ellie possessed many talents which she used to bless other lives. She was always a first responder to bring or furnish food in times of need. She was a coupon clipper and recycler before it became today’s norm. Her talents for sewing and handwork were a blessing to all who received these works of art. Flowers thrived at her touch.
She was a loving spouse, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and constant friend. Just as the heavens were filled with angels at the time of the Christ child’s birth, Ellie was totally surrounded by angels at the end of her life as she went to heaven.
She departed this life on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Avera Marshall Hospital at the age of 90 years. Some of these angels had names and faces; some were friends and family members, Pastor Thul, nurses, Dr. Willett and numerous caregivers. Some were total strangers, but all of them guided her on her journey to the special place God had made ready for her.
She will be dearly missed by her three daughters, Beth Hasert of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Delores (and Doug) Swan of Balaton, Minnesota, Pat (and Les) Rinderknecht of New Mexico, and one son, Vince Myhre of Baltic, South Dakota; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; five Godchildren; brother, Harlan (and Lois) Ahlschlager of Balaton, Minnesota; sister, Phyllis Ahlschlager of Marshall, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Mary Ahlschlager of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Jeannie Ahlschlager of Iona, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mandrup; brothers, Leonard, Donald, and Marvin; sisters, Ruth Swanson and Irene Cooper. The cancer is dead – Ellie will live forever! Blessed be her memory!
