ELLEN MAE CINKLE was born on July 29, 1927 to August Herman and Mary Louise (Anderson) Pierson in Luverne, Minnesota, where she was raised. She received her baptism in 1927 and confirmation in 1941 at Grace Lutheran Church. In 1945, Ellen graduated from Luverne High School. On October 11, 1950 Ellen was united in marriage to Frank James “Jim” Cinkle. As Jim worked in banking, Ellen worked as a homemaker to the couple’s two children, David and Jeanne. In 1960, Ellen and Jim moved their family to Alexandria, Minnesota. In 1965, they returned to Luverne and remained there until September 2011, when they moved to Keystone Senior Living in Prior Lake, Minnesota, to be closer to their children. Jim passed away on September 10, 2014. Ellen remained in their home until Tuesday, January 24, 2017 when she passed away there at the age of 89 years, five months and 26 days.
Ellen was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne, where she had belonged to Ladies’ Aid, serving twice in the past as President. She was an excellent knitter and made dozens of afghans. She also enjoyed playing bridge on Tuesday’s and was famous for her wonderful sugar cookies.
Ellen is lovingly remembered by her two children, David and his wife, Kathy Cinkle of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Dr. Jeanne and her husband, Michael Wittrock of Prior Lake, Minnesota; two grandsons, Mike and his wife Delmy Wittrock and Steve Wittrock; and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Bella Wittrock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; parents, Herman and Louise; and three brothers, Paul Pierson, Loren Pierson and Marlen Pierson.
