Ellen M. Fenske

ELLEN MARIE FENSKE was born on January 1, 1922 to Clarence and Marie (Beckman) Knorr in Plymouth County, Iowa. At a young age the family moved to Minnesota near the Brewster area. She was raised on the farm and attended country school through the eighth grade. On November 26, 1941 Ellen was united in marriage to Ned Sasse. The couple farmed near Brewster where she enjoyed her years as a homemaker and helping on the farm. Ned passed away in February of 1959. On January 23, 1965, Ellen married Marvin Fenske. The couple resided on Ellen’s farmstead until 1997 when they moved to Luverne, Minnesota. Marvin went to the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne in late 2001 and died on August 7, 2006. Following a stroke in 2001, Ellen needed to have more caretaking services and went to live with her daughter in Sioux Falls. On Tuesday, April 2, 2013 Ellen died peacefully at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and entered the Lord’s care at the age of 91 years, 3 months and 1 day.

Ellen was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing cards and dice. She had huge flower and vegetable gardens and enjoyed raising chickens on the farm. She loved cooking and baking and always seemed to have pie and other goodies to eat.

Ellen is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Karen Best of Sioux Falls; granddaughter, Cherie Best of Denver, CO; two great-grandchildren, Sean and Catherine; her sister, Evelyn Silvrants of Luverne, MN; and other family and friends, including Julia Silvrants, Ron Hammer, Jean Nelson, Carol Ellston, David and Jan Sasse, Barbara Curci, Mary Rocco, Judy Thomas, Nancy and Wayne Reker, and many others. She was preceded in death by her two husbands; her son-in-law, Tony; and a twin brother, Elvin.
