Emmett Sik

September 5, 1934 — July 24, 2018

EMMETT EMIL SIK was born on September 5, 1934 to Leo and Christina (Sadergesti) Sik in the Ivanhoe Regional Hospital. Emmett lived on the family farm with his brothers and attended the Hansonville Township Country School in Lincoln County, Minnesota until the 8th grade. Emmett then began helping his father on the family farm. Once he was old enough, Emmett began renting various farms in Hope Township and worked the land. In 1976, Emmett moved down to Lake Benton, Minnesota. Emmett met Delores DeSchepper in 1977. Emmett lived around Lake Benton until 1978, when he moved to Pipestone, Minnesota. Emmett began working as a maintenance worker for the City of Pipestone from 1978 until his retirement in 1999. After his retirement, Emmett continued to stay busy by collecting scrap iron and chopping wood for those that need it. Emmett was brought to the Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on July 10, 2018. Emmett was then brought to the Pipestone County Hospice House on Wednesday, July 18, 2018. Emmett remained there until his death on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at the age of 83 years, 10 months, and 19 days.

Emmett was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone, Minnesota, but frequented the Catholic churches of Jasper and Woodstock until their closing. Emmett was a hardworking man with a self-less heart. He never thought twice about helping an individual when they needed help. In his spare time Emmett enjoyed hunting deer and pheasant with his family members. The most important thing to Emmett was the memories and times that he was able to spend with his family and loved ones.

Emmett is survived by his three loving children, Lorraine Maleyko of Tyler, Minnesota, Allan Sik of Tyler, and Cynthia (Lyle) Page of Sherburn, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Russell Bauer, Eric Haken, Melissa Haken, and Carissa Evans; six great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Bauer, Ethan Sik, Madison Haken, Morgan Haken, Isaac Evans, and Emma Evans; and many other loving friends and family members. Emmett was preceded in death by his fiancée, Delores DeSchepper; son, Danny Sik; two brothers, Raymond and Eddie Sik; and his parents, Leo and Christina.

Memorials are preferred to the family and will be directed to Dyllen Christensen Yockey to assist with his medical expenses.
