ERIC ALLAN SAMMONS was born on June 21, 1976 to Mike and Mary (Padilla) Sammons in Luverne, Minnesota, where he was raised. He attended school and graduated from Luverne High School in 1995. While in high school, Eric was involved in football and baseball. He then moved to the Twin Cities after graduation and attended school at Brown Institute, graduating with a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Graphic Design in 1998. In 2004 Eric moved to Hallendale Beach, Florida. In 2009, Eric returned to Luverne. While in Luverne he played for the hometown amateur baseball team. He moved to Brownsville, Texas in 2011. During his life he worked various jobs. Due to his health concerns, Eric returned to Luverne in 2016. On Sunday, January 13, 2019, Eric was admitted to the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where on Thursday, January 17, 2019 he passed away with family by his side at the age of 42 years, six months and 26 days. Eric then furthered his caring for others through the gift of tissue donation.
Eric was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne where he was baptized and confirmed. He loved attending his nieces’ and nephews’ activities and watching them grow up; he was always their biggest fan. Eric was very artistic and was big into gaming. Anyone who entered Eric’s life affectionately received a nickname from him. His teddy bear hugs and infectious smile will be missed.
Eric is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Ferynn Rose Sammons of Harlingen, Texas; mother, Mary (Mike) McLaughlin of Luverne; father, Mike (Ronda) Sammons of Round Lake, Minnesota; three siblings, Chad (Sara) Sammons of New Ulm, Minnesota, Angela (Robert) Sneller of Luverne, and Lindsay (Thomas) Jenniges of Ellsworth, Minnesota; step-siblings Ashley Harms, Ocheyedan, Iowa, Anthony Voss, Round Lake, Billy McLaughlin, Sioux Falls, SD and Kristina McLaughlin, Pipestone, Minnesota; paternal grandma, Lilly Ann Sammons; and nieces, nephews and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Ben and Betty Padilla; paternal grandpa, Leslie Sammons; uncle, David Sammons; and aunt, Kristi Baker.
Memorials are preferred to establish an education fund for his daughter, Ferynn.
