Evelyn Silvrants

EVELYN ELVINA SILVRANTS was born on January 13, 1927 to Clarence and Marie (Beckman) Knorr on a farm in Plymouth County, Iowa. She received her Christian baptism on February 20, 1927 in Le Mars, Iowa. At a young age, she and her family moved to a farm near Brewster, Minnesota, before then moving to a farm near Windom, Minnesota. Evelyn attended and completed her education at country school through the eighth grade. Following her schooling she continued to help her family on the farm. On September 27, 1953 Evelyn was united in marriage to Orville Silvrants at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Okabena, Minnesota. Following their marriage the couple made their home on Orville’s farm southeast of Heron Lake, Minnesota. They were blessed with a daughter, Julia. Orville died in May of 1976. Evelyn then accepted a job at Heron Lake Hospital. In 1978 she moved into town. Evelyn continued to work at the hospital as a cook until her retirement in 1982. In the fall of 1992 she moved to Luverne, Minnesota. On January 26, 2011 she became a resident at the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home. On January 26, 2016 with her daughter, Julia, and niece, Karen, by her side at the Sanford Luverne Hospital, Evelyn went to join her family in Heaven at the age of 89 years and 13 days.

Evelyn was a past member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and participated in Ladies Aid. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, watching the birds and squirrels, and deeply loved her canine friends.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Julia Silvrants of Luverne; nieces and nephews; and other family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville; parents, Clarence and Marie; brother, Elvin Knorr; sister, Ellen Fenske; and niece, Linda Gilbert.
