FREDERICK CHARLES VON DER LIETH was born on April 22, 1936 to Charles and Marie (Schultz) Von Der Lieth in Doon, Iowa. He was baptized on October 4, 1936 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa and confirmed on August 19, 1956 at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne, Minnesota. Fred attended school in rural Rock Rapids. When his family moved to a farm near Beaver Creek, Minnesota, Fred completed his education through the eighth grade. He then remained on the farm, working alongside of his father. Later in his life, Fred also worked as a farm hand for neighboring farmers. He loved the farm life and animals. In his later years, he especially enjoyed the company of his cats.
In December 2017, Fred became a resident at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, Minnesota. He loved his time at the care center and enjoyed the community of residents. He was very proud to be crowned King in May 2018 and asked to participate in the Hills Friendship Days parade. On Friday, November 2, 2018, while under hospice care in his room, Fred died peacefully at the age of 82 years, six months and ten days.
Fred was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He was an avid reader and enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo and listening to WNAX radio for the farm reports and country music.
Fred is lovingly remembered by his half-sister, Patricia Skoglund of Lancaster, California; and other family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vernon Von Der Lieth; four half-brothers; and a half-sister.
