February 21, 1940 — January 13, 2023

Gary Curtis Brosz was born on February 21, 1940 to Elton and Agnes (Hauck) Brosz in Yankton, South Dakota. He was raised in Wagner, South Dakota and attended school there, graduating from Wagner High School in 1958. He attended Southern State in Springfield, South Dakota where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Social Studies and Coaching. He then attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota and earned his Master's Degree. On December 27, 1964 he was united in marriage to Shirley Schuette in Scotland, South Dakota. The couple lived in Bridgewater, South Dakota from 1964 to 1972 where Gary taught social studies and coached basketball. In 1972 the family moved to Tyler, Minnesota where Gary served as principal for 29 years and was the athletic director. In 2001 he retired. After retiring, Gary stayed busy helping Hartquist Funeral Home serve the families of Tyler and the surrounding area. He enjoyed sitting visitations and greeting people at the door with a friendly smile and conversation. Gary and Shirley continued to live and enjoy their time in Tyler. On Friday, January 13, 2023 Gary passed away suddenly at the Avera Tyler Healthcare Center in Tyler after likely suffering a heart attack at his home.

Gary was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Tyler where he had been a member of the Church Council. He was also a member of the Tyler Lions Club as well as the Kiwanis Club of Tyler when it was active. Gary enjoyed watching sports. He loved seeing his grandchildren participate and watched many different Minnesota sports teams.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Shirley of Tyler; three children, Jodi (Randy) Lichtsinn of Lake Benton, Minnesota, Jeff (Jennifer) Brosz of Shakopee, Minnesota, and Tammy Brosz of Superior, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, Jordan, Mallory, and Carter Lichtsinn, and Jackson, Cole, Drew, and Trey Brosz; two brothers, Keith (Nelda) Brosz of Jackson, Missouri, and Dan (Nancy) Brosz of Grand Island, Nebraska; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
