GARY LEE VOS was born in Slayton, Minnesota to Floyd and Cornelia (Scholten) Vos on February 16, 1946. He grew up in the Slayton/Chandler, Minnesota area and attended school in Chandler until the 9th grade. Gary enlisted in the United States Army when he was 18 years old. He met the love of his life, Leann Severeid in December 1967. The two were united in marriage on August 23, 1968. To this marriage, they were blessed with two sons, Toby and Shane. Gary held various jobs before he started driving truck for Bayliner in 1980. In the winter of 1993, the couple bought their own Kenworth truck and along with Leann, they started cross country trucking until 2004. More recently, he worked for Buffalo Ridge Concrete and Ludolph’s Bus Service. Gary passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 7, 2020 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 74 years, 9 months, and 21 days.
Gary attended Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Pipestone, Minnesota. He enjoyed woodworking and loved to go fishing with his sons and grandsons. Riding his Harley brought him a special joy with the love of his life on the back of their bike, travelling on uncharted roads and riding with his family. The memories made on those trips will always be cherished.
Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Leann; two sons, Toby (Lisa) Vos of Luverne, Minnesota and Shane (Linda) Vos of Pipestone; five grandchildren, Austin (Samantha) Westly, Cole Vos, Ryan, and Brooke Vos; two great-grandchildren, Josie and Opal Westly; siblings, Marilyn Glover of California, Helaine Fitts of California, Bev Rickenbaugh of Edgerton, Minnesota, Bill (Beth) Vos of Arizona, Karen (Craig) Bright of South Dakota, Rick (Terry) Vos of Faribault, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Charlene Vos of Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Cornelia; his brothers, Arvin, Lenny, and Butch; sister-in-law, Arlene Vos; parents-in-law, Orville and Byrdella Severeid; and brothers-in-law, Rick Rickenbaugh and Leon Fitts.
