Geneva June (Tinklenberg) Zick was born on June 13, 1929 to Richard Simon and Cornelia Rose (Moret) Tinklenberg in Edgerton, Minnesota. She grew up in Edgerton and lived there until 1937 when her family moved to Holland, Minnesota. She attended country school there until 1940 when her family moved to Pipestone, Minnesota. She graduated from Pipestone High School in 1946. In 1947, Gene was united in marriage to Robert Darnell Moore. The two lived in the Pipestone area. Gene owned and cooked at several restaurants in Pipestone. In 1966 their marriage ended. In 1968, she was united in marriage to Hugo Zick. After their marriage the couple moved to several different cities until the time of Hugo’s death in 2014 when the two were living in Marshall, Minnesota. Gene continued to live in Boulder Estates Apartments in Marshall and was united in marriage to Clarence Gilb on October 9, 2015. On November 5, 2018 she entered into the Prairie Home Hospice in Marshall where she passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at the age of 89 years, five months, and eight days.
Gene enjoyed attending Living Word Lutheran Church in Marshall. She loved supporting her children and grandchildren at their sporting events throughout the years; they brought her great joy. She also liked journaling and writing poems. She was very proud of the store she started, “Lighthouse Books and Treasures.” Along with her daughter Rachel, she ran stores in Lake Benton, Tyler, and Tracy. Their Marshall location "Treasured Times" is still in operation today. Time spent with family was treasured, especially when it happened at the lake while enjoying a boat ride.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Clarence of Marshall; children, Danny (Ruth) Moore of Medford, Minnesota, Sharla (Dave) Steuck of Brookings, South Dakota, Darwin (Debbie) Moore of Edgewater, Florida, Sandi (Tom) Newgard of Pipestone, Shari (Terry) Altermatt of Wabasso, Minnesota, Rachel (Brad) Deutz of Marshall, Randy (Carina) Zick of Northfield, Minnesota, and Rod Zick of Cleveland, Minnesota; three stepsons, Ardell (Barb) Gilb of Shorewood, Minnesota, Roger (Jan) Gilb of Lakeville, Minnesota, and Denny (Kathy) Gilb of Prior Lake, Minnesota; 19 grandchildren, Travis, Chris, Jeff, Amy, Chad, Wendi, Kerri, TJ, Kati, Wade, Tera, Traci, Tori, Brandon, Bailee, Brody, Ciara, Tiana, and Mason; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; special families, Jessie, Brian, Travis, Melissa, McKayla, McKenzie and Shawn Erickson, Karen and Brittany Clipper; Special friends, Don and Bev De Weerd. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert and Hugo; and her parents.
