Georgia Ann Mousel was born to Fred and Adla (Nelson) Kampmeyer on August 11, 1929 in Dell Rapids, South Dakota where she was raised on a farm southwest of Dell Rapids. She attended school in Dell Rapids. After she completed her elementary school years, she moved with her parents to Chester, South Dakota and graduated from high school there in 1947. While living in Chester, she met Cecil Mousel and they were united in marriage on September 30, 1948 at Huntimer Catholic Church in rural Colton, South Dakota. Following their marriage, they lived at Cecil’s mother’s home three miles north of Dell Rapids where Cecil helped his younger brother on the family farm. One year later, they moved to Eden Township, west of Jasper, Minnesota where they lived and farmed their entire married life. Beginning in 1967, Georgia became employed as the bookkeeper at the Jasper Elevator and she worked there until her retirement in the early 1990s. In 2008, she was diagnosed as having cancer. Following her treatments, she was cancer free until late 2015 when her cancer reoccurred. In early October, 2016, she entered the Pipestone County Hospice House where she died on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the age of 87 years, two months and 24 days.
Georgia was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper where she was active with the finance committee. In her earlier years, she was active in the altar society at church. For many years, she enjoyed playing her saxophone with the Jasper Blowhards. While her boys were growing up, she liked to sew their clothes. She also liked doing ceramics, reading, and selling Mary Kay and Avon cosmetics. She was an avid Twins fan. Her entire life she loved the Chicago Cubs, and everyone who knew her smiled knowing that Georgia lived to see the Cubs win the World Series this past week.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 68 years, Cecil Mousel of Jasper, Minnesota; two sons, Lane and his wife Kate Mousel of Huntsville, Alabama, and their children Adrienne (Sammy) Lanza and Tyler (Mallory) Mousel, and Alan and his wife Linda Mousel of Colman, South Dakota, and their daughter, Heather Mousel.
