Mass of Christian Burial for Gladys Lingen, age 91, of Holland, Minnesota will be Tuesday, February 14, at 10:30 AM at St. Martin Catholic Church in Woodstock, Minnesota. Visitation will be Monday, 4:00-7:00 PM with a rosary service at 6:45 PM followed by prayers at 7:00 PM all at St. Martin Catholic Church in Woodstock. Gladys Elaine Lingen was born February 1, 1926 to Hans and Clara (Bornholdt) Sorensen in Tyler, Minnesota. She grew up on the farm in Ruthton and attended country school through grade eight. Gladys was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Ruthton, Minnesota. In 1942, she moved to Oregon where she was near her cousins and employed at a cookie factory. In 1949, she returned to Ruthton. Gladys was united in marriage John Francis Lingen on April 30, 1953. Their union was blessed with eight children and 48 years of marriage together. The couple farmed south of Ruthton and in 1955 they moved to their farm three miles south of Holland where they dairy farmed and raised their family. They retired in 1993. John died January 26, 2002 and Gladys continued to live at her farm home. Later she had lived at Falls Landing, Good Samaritan, and Ridgeview all in Pipestone, Minnesota. Gladys entered the care of Pipestone County Hospice House on December 26, 2016 where she died on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the age of 91 years.
Gladys was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church in Woodstock, Minnesota. She was active in the life of the congregation having served in the ladies aid, worship and fellowship. She belonged to the Senior Center in Holland and card club. She enjoyed quilting, card playing, and especially time spent with her family.
Gladys is lovingly remembered by her seven children, Alan (and Mary Jo) Lingen of New Richmond, Wisconsin, Connie (and Leo) Hillard of Pipestone, Minnesota, Steve (and Percy) Lingen of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, Dianne Lingen of Primghar, Iowa, Michael (and Kathy) Lingen of Woodstock, Minnesota, Larry Lingen of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Chris Lingen of Holland, Minnesota; ten grandchildren, Stacy Hillard, Heather DeWilde, Brett Lingen, Anthony Lingen, Jessica Schoep, Travis Lingen, Kali Collins, Kelly DeBoer, Marques Lingen, and Brennan Lingen; ten great-grandchildren, Bailey, Trevin, McKenley, Charlie, Juniper, Bernadette, Parker, Baylor, Tripp, Jaxon; two sisters, Helen Markl of Pipestone, Minnesota and Ethel Huhnstock of Georgia; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, John; son, Todd Lingen; granddaughter, Kristy Hillard; parents, Hans and Clara; and a brother, Wayne Sorensen. Blessed and eternal be her memory.
