Harold Carrow

September 22, 1930 — February 13, 2014

HAROLD JAMES CARROW was born to Hector and Loretta (Boudreau) on September 22, 1930 near Green Valley, Minnesota. He was raised on the family farm where he attended country school in District #86 through the 8th grade. He then attended high school in Marshall, Minnesota. After his graduation in 1948, he entered the U.S. Navy. After his discharge from the service, he returned to Marshall and became employed as a bookkeeper at a local car dealership. While living in Marshall, he met Marlys Gregg and they were united in marriage on January 9, 1954 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Following their marriage, they resided in Marshall. In 1957, Harold became employed at Production Credit Association in Marshall where he worked as a loan officer until 1973 when they purchased the Coast to Coast Hardware Store in Vermillion, South Dakota. In March of 1974, they started the Carrow Hardware Store in Pipestone, Minnesota. Harold worked there full-time for eight months until his son, Greg, took over managing the store. At that time, Harold returned to being a loan officer for PCA, later known as Farm Credit Services, until his retirement in 1984. Following his retirement as a loan officer, he was employed as a custodian in the Pipestone School System for nine years. He also enjoyed being the groundskeeper at Paulsen Field. He then enjoyed helping at Carrow Hardware Store until this past summer when his eyesight prevented him from working. On January 6, 2014, he entered the Pipestone County Medical Center. He was transferred to the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone on January 15, 2014. He died there on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the age of 83 years, four months and 22 days.

Harold was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone where he served on the church council as well as serving as an usher. He was a charter member of the Golden K Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also active with the Pipestone Food Shelf. In his younger years, he was active with the Pipestone Ambulance Association. Some of Harold's hobbies included woodworking and faithfully walking every evening.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Marlys of Pipestone; his children: Greg and his wife Connie of Pipestone and their children: Laura Wurster and Hollie Pater; Kathy Carrow of Grand Rapids, Minnesota and her children: Nicholas Ossefoort and Stacy Holmgren; Brian Carrow of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Teresa and her husband Tom Sterrett of Pipestone and their children: Heather Goddeyne, Heidi Weedman and Meghan Cox; and Julie Carrow and her special friend, Dave Sowden of Pipestone; Christopher and Matthew Carrow, children of Mark Carrow, who died in 2003; 10 great-grandchildren and one sister Vernette Senden of Marshall, Minnesota; and his very special friend, Bud. He is preceded in death by his son, Mark; his parents; and one brother, Norman.
