Harold Alvin Fick was born on December 13, 1942 to Fritz and Malinda (Oeding) Fick at the family home in rural Beaver Creek, Minnesota. On January 1, 1943, Harold was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne, Minnesota, and was later confirmed on June 9, 1957. During his childhood he attended Pleasant View District 57 School through the 7th grade and then attended Hills High School, graduating in 1960. Following his high school graduation, he furthered his education by attending Nettleton Business College, graduating with an Accounting Business Degree in 1961. After college Harold started working at Safeway Stores Inc. Egg Processing plant in Adrian, Minnesota as an office manager. He then worked up the ladder –becoming a Field Representative, then night plant foreman and finally the plant Superintendent. He helped his father Fritz with farming while working at Safeway. From 1964-1970 Harold served with the South Dakota Army National Guard in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was honorably discharged on March 16, 1970. In 1976, Harold left Safeway and started farming full time when his dad retired. He continued to farm for the rest of his life. On July 25, 1986, Harold was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marlene Bolkema, at the First Reformed Church in Boyden, Iowa. This marriage was blessed with their son, Eric, who was the biggest blessing in their lives.

Harold was a life time member of St. John Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Luverne. He served as an usher for 67 years (every year since he was confirmed). He also served as an Elder for 22 years, as Congregational President and on the Church Finance Committee. Outside of church, Harold also served on the Hills Coop Farm Service Elevator Board for 13 years, with nine of those years being the Chairman and he served on the Rock County Rural Water Board for six years – four of which he was Chairman. When Harold wasn’t helping his community, he enjoyed car races, especially sprint cars. He loved going to fairs and farm shows and also was an avid collector of John Deere tractors and machinery. One of his favorite pastimes was to drive around the countryside watching the crops grow. Harold was a fine steward of the land, his passion for his farm ran deep and he was recognized as a Century farm in 2017 – a title he highly honored. Harold entered the care of the Luverne Hospice Cottage where he passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the age of 82 years, one month and nine days.

Harold is lovingly remembered by his wife, Marlene Fick of Beaver Creek, Minnesota; son, Eric Fick of Beaver Creek; siblings, Dorothy (Warren) Anderson of Howard Lake, Minnesota, Gordon (Martha) Fick of Magnolia, Minnesota, Roger (Kathy) Fick of Luverne and Glenn (Linda) Fick of Sibley, Iowa; sister-in-law, Shirley (Larry) Snuttjer of Sioux Falls; brothers-in-law, Harlyn (Linda) Bolkema and Rodney (Lori) Bolkema, both of Boyden, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Malinda Fick; infant sister, Delores Grace Fick; and sister- and brother-in-law, Glenda and Dan Van Fleet.
