Harris Dewilde

November 20, 1931 — September 10, 2013

Curwood Harris DeWilde. . .

was born to Crienus and Helen (Heersma) DeWilde on November 20, 1931 in Pipestone, Minnesota where he was raised and attended school. After his graduation from Pipestone High School in 1951, he worked on the railroad. In August, 1952, he entered the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War until his discharge in June, 1954. Following his discharge, he attended college at S.D.S.U. in Brookings, South Dakota for two years. In 1957, he started farming in Fountain Prairie Township near Holland, Minnesota until his retirement in 1985.

Harris was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone. He was also a member of Earl Gruis American Legion Post #534 in Holland and the Senior Citizens in Pipestone and Holland. He was a member of the Sportsmen's Club. Harris enjoyed attending all the Pipestone girl's basketball, volleyball and softball and football games and was the #1 Arrow fan. He would bring his great-nephew, Brendan along as his helper. The two of them shared a special day (November 20). While a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, he was always socializing with everyone. He looked forward to playing bingo and especially flirting with the caretakers. He sent cards to many friends for special occasions.

Harris passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at the Sanford Health Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He had lived to reach the age of 82 years.

He is lovingly remembered by one niece, Lynn Carlson of Pipestone, Minnesota; and two nephews, Thomas Carlson and Larry Carlson, both of Bruce, South Dakota; two great-nephews, Terry Carlson of Moose Lake, Minnesota, and Brendan Carlson of Pipestone, Minnesota; and one great-niece, Jessica Carlson-Kemal and her son, Mackenzi. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Phyllis Carlson.
