Helen Mae Schulze passed away peacefully on July 29, 2014 at the age of 96. She was surrounded by her loving family as she entered into rest with her loving Savior.
Helen was born in Pipestone County, Minnesota on May 19, 1918 to Fred and Lydia Schmidt. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Pipestone High School. As a young woman, she worked in a dress shop where she developed a flair for fashion and a love for serving her customers. In 1947 she married Albert Schulze. After living in Pipestone for two years, they moved to Le Sueur, Minnesota to own and operate the Le Sueur Greenhouse, Flowers, and Gifts shop where they raised their three girls and served their community. In September of 1973, Albert passed away. Helen sold the greenhouse business and returned to Pipestone where she enrolled in the Pipestone Area Vocational Technical School and earned a certificate in tailoring. She eventually moved to Maple Grove, MN to be closer to her girls and worked at JC Penny's Ridgedale as a tailor and sales associate. In 1990, Helen moved to Glendale, Arizona to live with her daughter, Jeanne. She lived there for 13 years enjoying the warm climate and making lots of friends from her church and community. In 2003 she moved back to Minnesota.
From Minnesota to Arizona, Helen made friends wherever she lived. Many nurses and aids at Freedom Point stated that she was one of their favorites because she was always positive and had a sense of humor. One nurse recounted that when giving Helen her meds, she teased that the nurse should take them since she already had some!
Helen had a love for God and was an active member of the Lutheran church. Helen enjoyed staying busy with her hands. Whether it was creating just the right flowers for her customers, tailoring a garment, or doing handiwork, she always had many projects going at once. She also loved her animals, especially her Bichon dog, Bishee and Molly, the black cat.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Albert and her parents Fred and Lydia Schmidt. She is survived by her three daughters, JoAnn (Mark) Frost of Norwood, MN, Linda (Clark) Evans of Maple Grove, MN, Jeanne (Stan Adams) Schulze of Victoria, MN; three grandsons, Terry and Matt Frost, Isaac Adams; one great-grandson, James Frost.
