HENRIETTA JOHANNA HARGESHEIMER was born on August 9, 1934 to Richard and Alice (Smith) Haan in Hills, Minnesota. She spent her childhood in Hills, graduating from Hills High School in 1953. She then attended Nettleton College in Sioux Falls for cosmetology. She worked as a cosmetologist in Sioux Falls for several years. Henrietta moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where she worked at Pine Rest Mental Institution and pursued her nursing degree. She returned to southwest Minnesota where she lived in Luverne and worked as a nurse at the Luverne Community Hospital as well as the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home. On September 23, 1960 Henrietta was united in marriage to Clarence Hargesheimer at her father’s home in Hills. The couple made their home in Luverne and were blessed with three children. In 1974, the couple began working together as custodians at Luverne Public Schools which she continued until her retirement in 1993. Henrietta died peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2015 at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage at the age of 81 years and one day.
Henrietta was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Luverne. She taught Sunday School and was a Gems counselor for many years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking and baking. She also liked to crochet. In her later years, she loved to spend time with her grandchildren and her great-granddaughters.
Henrietta is survived by her husband, Clarence of Luverne; her children, Crystal Ailts and her husband Kevin of Luverne, Bruce Hargesheimer and his wife Michelle of Bloomington, MN and Robert Hargesheimer and his wife Leslie of Lakeville, MN; grandchildren, Sarah (Christopher) Nuffer, Nicole and Alicia Hargesheimer, and Katie (Matthew) Van Grootheest; step-grandchildren, James (Tiffany) and Karlinn O’Neil; great-grandchildren, Afton and Aubrey Nuffer, and Kallista Van Grootheest; step-great-grandchild, Lily O’Neil; and her sister, Francis (Albert) Haak of Luverne. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Richard and Jacob Haan; sister, Charlotte Oldenkamp; and nephew, Charles Oldenkamp.
