Hermina Schiebout

July 22, 1932 — October 25, 2011

HERMINA SCHIEBOUT was born to George and Hermina “Minnie” (Bosman) Brinks on July 22, 1932 in Sioux County, Iowa, and she was raised on the family farm near Boyden, Iowa. She was baptized at the Boyden Reformed Church where she made her profession of faith on January 1, 1950. She attended country school through the eighth grade and continued her education at Boyden Public High School. After her graduation in 1949, she worked in a grocery store until her marriage to Abraham Schiebout on July 22, 1953. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed by Ireton, Iowa for seven years. They then moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa and farmed north of Rock Rapids for ten years. In 1970, they moved to a farm in Gray Township, near Pipestone, Minnesota; and in 1983, they moved into Pipestone. During this time, Hermi was employed as a secretary at Modular Structure, Inc., until she began working as the receptionist at the Pipestone Vocational School. She later worked as the librarian at the public library where her favorite times were spent leading the children’s story hour. She also worked as the manager of the Mayfair Motel and as a cashier at Pamida. She was one of the original employees for Loopy’s, and she continued to work there for 15 years until September, 2011, when she took a leave of absence for health reasons. On October 7, 2011, she was diagnosed as having lymphoma. She remained under hospice care at her home in Pipestone where she could be near her family. On Tuesday, October 25, 2011, Hermi died at her home at the age of 79 years, three months and three days.

Hermi was a member of the Pipestone Christian Reformed Church where she was active in numerous church groups. She was currently serving as president of the Dorcas Society. She enjoyed reading, embroidering, trying new recipes, and playing Yahtzee with her family. Because she loved being around people so much, she continued to work during her retirement years. She was an avid sports fan who loved the Twins and the Timberwolves. She especially loved being with her family and friends.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Abe Schiebout of Pipestone, Minnesota; four children, Lynette Blom and her husband Steve of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Randall Schiebout and his wife Luann of Pipestone, Minnesota, Lyle Schiebout and his wife Karla of Trosky, Minnesota, and Jay Schiebout and his wife Sandy of Pipestone, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Berendena Scholten and Georgiann Holtrop, both of Sheldon, Iowa; her brother-in-law, Andy Wolthuizen of Sheldon, Iowa; and her sister-in-law, Henrietta Brinks of Worthington, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gerrit and John Brinks; her sister, Joan Wolthuizen; her infant sister, Gerdena Brinks; two brothers-in-law, John Scholten and Alvin Holtrop; and her sister-in-law, Marie Brinks.
