HOWARD JEROME FARMER…
was born on March 13, 1942 to William and Lois (Lamon) Farmer on the family farm near Pipestone, Minnesota where he was raised. He attended country school District #3 and then school in Egan, South Dakota. He later attended school at Southern School of Agriculture in Waseca, Minnesota, graduating in 1960. Following his education, he resided in Pipestone and drove truck for over 40 years. Howard served in the Army National Guard in Pipestone and the Air National Guard in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He died at his home on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the age of 75 years six months and 28 days.
Howard was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone. He had a great love of old tractors; especially those manufactured in the 1930’s – 1950’s. Howard knew the model of any tractor within the neighborhood and contacted a salesman at J.D. every work day to hear about the tractors that were for sale. Another love that Howard maintained throughout his life was his love of auctions and items that other people would consider “junk”. He had an ability to see the potential in the items that he would buy, and while he had intentions of repairing the items, he rarely had the time to repair and sell them. Howard was also fascinated by healthcare products. He was known to purchase items that were intended to keep him active and healthy. As a friend, he was concerned and caring, calling his best friend everyday for the last four years.
Howard is remembered by his five siblings, Lois (Daryl) Bruns of Fulda, Minnesota, George (Arna) Farmer of Faribault, Minnesota, Cyrus (Diane) Farmer of Kandern, Germany, Calvin (Linda) Farmer of Pipestone, Minnesota and Lila Farmer of Dallas, Texas; and one sister-in-law, Carol Farmer of Pipestone. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Roberta Karls; and one brother, William.
