Hugo W. Zick

HUGO WILLIAM ZICK was born to Emil and Minnie (Otto) Zick on April 25, 1929 on a farm near Lucan, Minnesota where he was raised and attended school. On December 19, 1951, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served as a corporal during the Korean War. After his discharge from the service on December 4, 1953, he returned to the area near Lucan and worked various jobs. On March 4, 1967, he married Geneva (Tinklenberg) Moore at the Lutheran Church in Madison, South Dakota. Following their marriage, they lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he worked for Erickson Gas Station. In 1968, they moved to Marshall, Minnesota, and Hugo worked at the Erickson Gas Station there. They moved to Pipestone, Minnesota in 1969, and Hugo became employed for Bayliner Boats. He continued to work for Bayliner until 1974 when they moved to Lucan where he began working for Petersen Implement in Tracy, Minnesota. They moved back to Marshall in 1978 when Hugo became employed for the Lyon County Coop. In 1987, Hugo and Gene decided to go into motel management so they returned to Pipestone. Hugo managed the Travel Host Motel until 1991 when they went with the Motel 6 Corporation and worked in various locations for that company. In 1995, they took over the management of the KOA Campgrounds in Sioux Falls. After his retirement in 1999, they moved to Lake Benton, Minnesota. In 2013, they returned to Marshall where Hugo died peacefully at the Prairie Home Hospice on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the age of 85 years, three months and 14 days.

Hugo was a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God in Lake Benton, Minnesota. He enjoyed spending his time doing word searches and puzzles. He especially enjoyed boating, and his favorite times were spent taking the kids skiing and knee boarding.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Geneva “Gene” Zick of Marshall, Minnesota; eight children, Danny Moore and his wife Ruth of Medford, Minnesota, Sharla Steuck and her husband Dave of Northfield, Minnesota, Darwin Moore and his wife Debbie of Deerfield, Florida, Sandi Newgard and her husband Tom of Pipestone, Minnesota, Shari Altermatt and her husband Terry of Wabasso, Minnesota, Rachel Deutz and her husband Brad of Marshall, Minnesota, Randy Zick and his wife Carina of Northfield, Minnesota, and Rod Zick of Cleveland, Minnesota; 19 grandchildren, Travis Moore, Chris Moore, Jeff Steuck, Amy Loufek, Chad Moore, Wendi Weber, Kerri Hoover, T.J. Newgard, Wade Newgard, Kati Bobeldyk, Tera Altermatt, Traci Amsden, Tori Amsden, Brandon Deutz, Bailee Deutz, Brody Deutz, Ciara Zick, Tiana Zick, and Mason Zick; 16 great-grandchildren, Mylee Weber, Noah Moore, Isaiah Moore, Charly Moore, Josie Moore, Curren Moore, Mitchell Biever, McCaden Biever, Maddox Biever, Kelsey Weber, Zach Weber, Megan Wimer, Kendrick Steuck and Kevin Steuck, Jaxson Hoover, and Kenslee Bobeldyk; two “daughters-in-heart”, Karen Clipper and Jessie Erickson; and three “grandchildren-in-heart”, Travis and Shawn Erickson and Brittany Clipper. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Otto Zick; and four sisters, Hulda Stofferhn, Mathilda Grisham, Louise Zick and Amanda Zick.
