IRENE MAE STANDISH was born on July 4, 1931 in Jasper, Minnesota to Halver and Louise (Rassmussen) Eggerud. Irene attended Blinson Rural School and then continued in Egan, South Dakota, completing the 9th grade. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Pipestone in May of 1956.
Irene was united in marriage to Donald Standish on April 23, 1949 at Ministry of the Gospel Church in Pipestone, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they made their home in Pipestone. To this marriage, three sons were born. Irene held several jobs in food service including the Fecker Company for two years, Armour Creameries for 10 years, the Pipestone Hospital Dietary Department for 10 years and also the Pipestone school system in dietary for 19 1/2 years. Irene retired in 1988.
Irene was a member of First Lutheran Church and also a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Pipestone. Irene enjoyed cooking, baking, reading the paper, drinking coffee, puzzles and embroidery. She especially enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren.
Irene died on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Pipestone County Medical Center. She had lived to reach the age of 82 years.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Gary (Jill) Standish of Oakdale, Minnesota and Dale (Brenda Fey) Standish of Pipestone, Minnesota; grandchildren, Renee Standish and her children Sarahn and Essence, Erik Standish, Todd Standish, and Heather Standish, Amy Lombardi, Clarinda Loving and Michael Wildes; 10 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Eldon Eggerud and Obert Eggerud. Irene is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; one son, David Standish; one sister, Lorraine Goertz; and two brothers, Oliver Eggerud and Kenneth Eggerud
