JACK LEROY MUNDT was born on May 13, 1934 to Evelyn B. Mundt on her parents’ farm in Rock Lake Township, Lyon County, near Balaton, Minnesota. Shortly after his birth, Jack and his mother moved to Ruthton, Minnesota, where he was raised and received his education. Jack worked at Hundstock Plumbing prior to his marriage. On April 23, 1955, Jack was united in marriage to Gloria A. Runge at the St. Dionysius Catholic Church in Tyler, Minnesota. Following their marriage the couple moved to Pipestone, Minnesota. Jack worked the next 17 years employed for Sunbeam Bakery in Pipestone. For the next 18 years he worked for the City of Pipestone Water Department, retiring in 1994. He remained active in his retirement and was very involved in his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s lives.
Jack was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Pipestone. Jack enjoyed motorcycling, the outdoors, traveling, camping with his family, “walking the square”, and vacationing with his family at the Minnesota State Fair every year.
Jack is lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Gloria; three children, Daniel Mundt and his wife Patti of Oak Grove, Minnesota, Kathy Howard of Shakopee, Minnesota, Scott Mundt and his wife Debra of Brookings, South Dakota; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Mundt; and a grandson, Matthew Mundt.
On Tuesday, January 10, 2012, Jack passed away at the Pipestone County Medical Center at the age of 77 years.
