Janet R. Stoll was born on September 19, 1944 to Norbert and Roberta (Sadler) Schweitzer in Rock Rapids, Iowa. She was the oldest daughter in a family of ten children. She spent her childhood attending St. Mary’s Catholic School through the 8th grade and then completed high school at Ellsworth Public School in Ellsworth, Minnesota, graduating in May of 1962. After graduation, Janet moved to the cities to care for Margaret Anderson. She later began working in insurance in the cities until February 18, 1979 when she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Kenneth Stoll. The couple bought a house together in Ellsworth and opened their own ceramic shop, KJ Ceramics. Janet was always a very gifted painter. She ran the shop with her husband for the next 20 years until she was forced to retire when health issues forced Ken to move into Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth. Janet became very involved at Parkview Manor, volunteering with activities and fundraising for the nursing home. She continued volunteering and serving her community after her husband’s death in 2004, until a decline in health brought Janet to Parkview Manor. On June 4, 2023, while receiving care at Sanford USD Medical Center, Janet passed away at the age of 78 years, 8 months, and 16 days.
Janet was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellsworth. She was very involved in the community, from volunteering to fundraising. She helped plan the all school class reunion and enjoyed teaching ceramics classes. She loved to spend time with her many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, as often as she could and also spent time watching birds.
Janet is survived by her siblings, Arthur “Beaver” (Sandy) Schweitzer, of Ellsworth, Beth (Bob) Duwenhoegger of Adrian, Minnesota, Elaine Klingenberg of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Linda Klingenberg of Adrian, Wayne (Diane) Schweitzer of Ellsworth, and Laura (Larry) Boltjes of Ellsworth; sister-in-law, Fran Schweitzer of Ada, Michigan; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Stoll; parents, Norbert and Roberta Schweitzer; and brothers, Richard Schweitzer, James Schweitzer, and Leslie Schweitzer.
