JaVon Lee Christensen was born on May 4, 1957 to Herman Ehrisman Jr. and Shirley Sip in Seattle, Washington. She was the oldest sibling of three brothers and one sister. JaVon graduated from Ethan High School in Ethan, South Dakota in 1975. She later graduated with her bachelor’s degree from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion in 1994. JaVon married her first husband, Dave Wittler, in 1977. She gave birth to her first daughter in 1977, second daughter in 1980 and her son in 1983. On October 8, 1983, JaVon married her second husband, and love of her life, Bernie Christensen in Yankton, South Dakota. The family lived in Yankton County until 1996, when they then moved to Rock County, Minnesota.

JaVon’s greatest joy in life was being a mother, grandmother and fur-momma to many animals; the current being a rambunctious, chocolate lab, named Snickers.

JaVon was beloved by many, especially her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was a beautiful soul who was always kind-hearted and upbeat, no matter any situation that came her way.

On Thursday, June 13, 2024, JaVon passed away at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 67 years, one month and nine days.

JaVon is lovingly remembered by her husband, Bernie of Magnolia, Minnesota; daughter, Crystal Remme (Matthew Kalass) of Luverne, Minnesota; son, Ryan (Michelle) Wittler of Baltic, South Dakota; three grandsons, Jaden Wittler, Ethan Wittler, and Anthony Wittler all of Baltic; two brothers, Jeff (Donna) Ehrisman of Bella Vista, Arkansas and John (Nadine) Ehrisman of Parkston, South Dakota; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer; sister, Jennifer; in-laws, Bernard and Beulah; father, Herman Jr.; mother, Shirley; brother, Joe; and brother-in-law, Robert.
