Jean J. Haugen

February 20, 1932 — January 28, 2013

JEAN JOAN HAUGEN was born on February 20, 1932 to Ingwald and Thea (Johnson) Score in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Jean was raised in Saint Paul and attended public high school there, graduating in 1949. Through the years she worked as a bartender and waitress, was employed at Honeywell and Rayette and also worked for the State of Minnesota on highway planning, all while raising her children. Over the years she married Norman Cartwright and after his death, she was united in marriage to Darrell “Jack” Brabant. Jean spent the majority of her lifetime in Saint Paul but moved with her “traveling buddy” and most recent husband, Tom Haugen, to Phoenix, Arizona around 1982. After Tom’s death, she moved back to the Twin Cities. Following a tragic car accident, Jean settled down in Pipestone to be closer to her family. Jean died on Monday, January 28, 2013 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 80 years, 11 months and eight days.

Jean was a commissioner on the HRA Board for Nokomis Apartments. She loved NASCAR, especially driver Jimmy Johnson, and cheering for her football team, the Vikings. She had a big personality with a feisty side, always on the move and ready for adventure. Jean was great at crosswords and enjoyed spending her time solving puzzles and being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jean is survived by her two daughters, Norma-Jean Cartwright and Kathy (Brian) Brabant of Pipestone, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Keith (Mel) Boetcher, Matthew (Arnetta) Emerfoll, Kelly (Milan) Pavich, James Brabant and Tony (Jessica) Pottratz; twelve great-grandchildren, Jared Meier, Tristan Boetcher, Nikki Brabant, Tegan Boetcher, Milayna Pavich-Brabant, Brittany Pavich-Brabant, Crystal Pavich-Brabant, Colton Pottratz, Riley Brabant, Allie Pottratz, Karlie Brabant and Kevin Brabant; and one brother, Russell (Gerri) Score of Saint Paul, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Norman, Darrell and Tom; and siblings, Irene, Elwood, Eugene and Robert.
