Jean Elizabeth Jones (Mrs. Wallace Jones), was born to John & Hilda (Henry) Schmidt on April 12, 1928 in Flandreau, South Dakota. At a young age she moved with her parents to a farm south of Pipestone, along with her siblings, Earl Schmidt, John Schmidt, Carol Kaiser, Margaret Bickel, Marilyn Schutz, and Kathy Clayton. She received her elementary education and graduated from Pipestone High School in 1945. In 1947 she married Wallace Earl Jones and they lived in Pipestone until 1950 when they moved to a farm in Sweet Township. In 1957 they moved to a farm south of Pipestone which they purchased from O. E. Ashton. In 1965 Jean took a position as Senior High Secretary to the Principal at Pipestone High School until 1979. As years went on she also worked as secretary receptionist at the Farm Credit Association, as well as working in admissions at the Pipestone Medical Center. She enjoyed all these positions but was a farm girl through and through. Those who knew her well would tell you she was an avid card player, crocheter, quilter and gardener. Her family would tell you she was a great cook as well.
She is lovingly remembered by her 6 children, Barb (Lyle) Mathiasen of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Pat (David) Armstrong of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mark Jones, Pipestone, Mary (Joe) Wendel, Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Diane (Rick) Stimson, Byron, Minnesota, Steve (Shonna) Jones, San Antonio, Texas; as well as 14 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1999, 1 brother, 2 sisters, 2 sons-in-law and 1 grandchild.
Jean was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church.
