Jeanette Marie Nelsen

JEANETTE NELSEN...

was born on June 30, 1944 to Bjorn Garfield and Beatrice (Bjerkestrand) Johnson in Minneota, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota. Jeanette was raised and received her education in Minneota. Following her education, she worked for the nursing home and then the court house in Marshall, Minnesota. On November 18, 1967, Jeanette was united in marriage to Lowell Nelsen at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota. After their marriage, they made their home on a farm in Lake Benton, Minnesota. To this union, three children were born. In 1984, Jeanette went back to work, beginning at Schwan’s in Marshall, Minnesota and then Larson’s manufacturing in Brookings, South Dakota until her retirement in 2011. In 2011, Lowell and Jeanette moved off of the farm and into Lake Benton where Jeanette resided until August 20, 2015 when she was admitted into the Sanford Hospital where she died on Friday, August 21, 2015 at the age of 71 years.

Jeanette was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lake Benton where she was the church secretary, taught Sunday school and was a member of the GLCW. Lowell and Jeanette enjoyed spending their time together; they loved to travel – near and far, never making reservations, just driving. They would also always take their walk around town in the evenings. Jeanette was an excellent baker – pies, carrot bars and cookies! She was also a wonderful housekeeper, especially with dusting. Jeanette was a people person; she could have a conversation with anyone and everyone. She was always willing to help; Jeanette would make herself available for any task at hand. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing with and reading to them. Jeanette was a loving, faith-filled woman.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Lowell of Lake Benton; children, Jean (Joe) Callens of Taunton, Minnesota, Darren of Lake Benton and Carolee (Cary) Fletcher of Palm Harbor, Florida; grandchildren, Anthony, Michael, Maria and Christina Callens of Taunton and Logan Fletcher of Palm Harbor; siblings: Arlon (Helen) Johnson of Canby, Minnesota, Willis Johnson of Minneota, Dorance (Jackie) Johnson of Wellington, Colorado, Francis Johnson of Minneota, and Merrill Johnson of Minneota; sisters-in-law, Norma Johnson of Porter, Minnesota, Sue and Nancy Johnson, both of Minneota and Ellen Johnson of Antioch, California and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, B. Garfield and Beatrice; sister Mavis Jensen; brothers, Dennis, Marion (Joe), Allen, and B. James Johnson; brother-in-law Leon Jensen and nephew, Michael Johnson.
