Jerry Jagt

January 19, 1948 — February 25, 2017

January 19, 1948 was the beginning of Jerry’s 69 year adventure. He was born to Arend and Marie (Brockstedt) Jagt in Tyler, Minnesota. The youngest of four, the kids were always introduced by their father as “David, Carla, Sharon, and late but important, Jerry.” Jerry enjoyed work and play on the farm and while attending school in Tyler. After graduation, he became a lineman at Lyon Lincoln Electric. He married Joan Buhl in November 1967. Jackie was born in 1971 and Jeryn was born in 1974.

Jerry’s enjoyment of running heavy equipment led to occupations of tiling, rural water and wind tower installing, road grading, over-the-road trucking, farming, and Jerry Jagt Underground. He also owned Jerry’s Plumbing and Heating, the Black Bear Bar & Grill, and worked as greenskeeper at the Tyler Golf Club. According to his friend, Gaylin, he was an engineer without a degree—inventing, building, and fixing were a huge part of his everyday life.

Adventures were also a part of his life. He enjoyed alligator hunting in Louisiana, gold mining in Alaska, time in South Africa and Zimbabwe with his brother, and visiting Guatemala with Joan. Hobbies included hunting elk, pheasants, bear, and his yearly deer hunts with his buddies and Jeryn. He spent many enjoyable hours on his snowmobile. He was always trying to improve his golf game and especially enjoyed golfing with his Sunday morning group or Jackie. He took an interest in beekeeping in his later years. On Saturday, February 25, 2017 Jerry’s 69 year adventure on earth ended when he died peacefully at his home in Tyler.

Jerry is lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Joan; his daughters, Jackie (Trent) Hess of Tyler, MN, and Jeryn (Walter) Sia Su of St. Cloud, MN; six grandchildren, Allie Sia Su, Chloe Hess, Rylie Hess, Kian Sia Su, Claire Sia Su, and Tatum Hess; a brother, David (Carmen) Jagt of Winter Haven, FL; a sister, Carla Burgess of San Antonio, TX; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arend and Marie; a sister, Sharon Jagt; a brother-in-law, Doug Burgess; his in-laws, Ing and Harriet Buhl; and a nephew, David Jagt.
