JERRY PETE ENGLERT was born on Tuesday, October 1, 1946 to Pete and Viola (Howatson) Englert in Seattle, Washington. In the early 1950s, his family moved to Auburn, Washington, where he was raised and attended school. He went out on his own early in life and spent a short time in Montana before he enlisted into the United States Army. He served his country from 1963 to 1965. In 1967, Jerry was united in marriage to Elizabeth Tennant. The couple would later divorce. In 1979, Jerry married Vickie Shaffer. The couple would later divorce. He worked in construction starting in the 1960s and eventually started Englert Bros. Construction. He would later sell his part of the business to his brother, Gary. Over the years he was a member of several local carpenter unions, retiring from local 587. He moved to Brainerd, Minnesota in 1995 where he resided for seven years while continuing his work in construction. Over the course of his career, he specialized as a journeyman carpenter but also as foreman and superintendent. He was also a very skilled mason. At the end of 2002, Jerry moved to Steen, Minnesota and continued working in the construction trade. He started American Tri-State Construction in 2002 and later sold it to a friend. In 2005, he traveled to Iraq and worked as a military contractor. On Wednesday, February 1, 2023, Jerry died at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage in Luverne, Minnesota, at the age of 76 years and 4 months.
Jerry enjoyed owning old cars and trucks, spending time with family and especially his grandchildren. Jerry was kind and generous. He was known to be honest and a hard worker. He made a lot of friends wherever he went.
Jerry is survived by his children, Danny (Tiffany) Englert, Travis (Ellen) Englert, Christil (Jeff) Brewer, Brandon Englert (partner, Bethany Smidstra), and Jesse (Kristen) Englert; 37 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; siblings, Patrick (Carol) Englert and Maxine Carner; and former wives, Liz Boyle of Luverne and Victoria Shaffer of Rock Rapids, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Englert; daughter, Rita Englert; grandchildren, Ryan and stillborn infant; great-granddaughter, Aurora; siblings, Ella Englert (infant sister), Teresa Calder, Doreen Williams, Alan Jett, Bill Jett, Tom Englert, and Gary Englert; mother, Viola Durst; father, Pete Englert; and step-father, Bill Durst.
Per Jerry's wishes, private services will be held at a later date.
