JoAnn Tinklenberg was born in Leota, Minnesota on July 8, 1924 to John Edward “Ed” and Martha (Kallemyn) Tinklenberg. She was baptized and later made her profession of her faith at Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota. She attended Leota Christian School and graduated from the 8th grade in 1938. She then began helping out at many homes doing the daily household duties. In 1947, JoAnn began working as nurse aid first at the Pipestone Hospital and later she worked at the Luverne Hospital. She moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1954, and found employment at the Wafer Cookie Company for a year before beginning her career at Lear Siegler Aerospace. After thirty-one and a half years of working, JoAnn retired in 1986. She then spent time visiting friends and family and helping her mother who was failing in health. She moved to Luverne in the fall of 1998 and lived there until July 2011 when she became a resident at the Parkview Manor in Ellsworth, Minnesota. On Tuesday, September 30, 2014 JoAnn died peacefully at the Parkview Manor at the age of ninety years, two months and twenty-two days.
JoAnn was a faithful servant to her Lord Jesus Christ all of her days and a current member at the American Reformed Church in Luverne.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Jennie and her husband Ray Anderson of Luverne; a brother, Marvin and his wife Verla Tinklenberg of Leota; a sister-in-law, Donna [Tinklenberg] Bouwer of Pella, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Martha Tinklenberg; two brothers, Simon Tinklenberg and Gary Tinklenberg; and niece, Karla Van Kooten and children Katie and Benjamin.
