Joanne Jean Klarenbeek was born on February 2, 1943 to John and Johanna (Oldenkamp) Top in Rock County, Minnesota. She was raised on the family farm between Beaver Creek, Minnesota and Hills, Minnesota. She attended school in Hills. On May 24, 1960, Joanne was united in marriage to Arend “John” Klarenbeek at the Christian Reformed Church in Hills. Joanne was not one to have idle hands. She waitressed at the Magnolia Steakhouse, worked at the grocery store in Edgerton, Minnesota, worked at the Hills Cafe, did some housework for the Brandenburgs, helped with the bookkeeping for John’s business, and helped raise their four children. On Saturday, July 27, 2024, Joanne died at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 81 years, 5 months, and 25 days.
Joanne was a member of the Luverne Christian Reformed Church in Luverne and served in various capacities, including being a part of the Christian School Circle, Young Women’s Bible Guild, and a Sunday school teacher. She collected Blue Delft pottery and china as well as Precious Moments figurines. Joanne enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, was an avid reader and known by many for making her sour-cream and raisin pie.
Joanne is survived by her children, Brad (Janna) Klarenbeek, Alan (Pam) Klarenbeek, Dennis (Vonda) Klarenbeek, and Joni (Dale) Wynia, all of Luverne; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Albert (Marlene) Top of Edgerton, Minnesota, Chuck Top of Edgerton, Audrey (Jim) Vis of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Annetta Berghorst of Ripon, California, Larry (Melinda) Top of Hardwick, Minnesota, and John (Evonne) Top of Luverne; step-sibling, Rose (Casey) Feikema of Luverne; brother-in-law, Norm Vis of Valley Springs, South Dakota; step-sisters-in-law, Marge Pap and Anna Jean Pap, both of Luverne; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arend “John” Klarenbeek; parents; step-father; sister, Judy Vis; step-brothers, Will Pap and Don Pap; brother-in-law, Keith Berghorst; two nephews; a niece; and a grandson-in-law.
